Holiday animations for Nick Jr social accounts

Nick Jr. asked me to make some animations for their holiday greetings on social media! Seen here are my knit versions of charcters from Blue's Clues and You, PAW Patrol, and Bubble Guppies. This was such a fun project with which to end a mostly disappointing year. Happy Holidays!

NIFTY Making-Of Video

NIFTY invited me to make some new cat GIFs for them and share my process, and this video is the result! I loved the opportunity to share some behind-the-scenes footage (featuring my super messy basement studio!) and KNIT MORE CATS. Thank you NIFTY!

GIPHY's Top Ten (again!)

via GIPHY

This was a nice surprise: GIPHY has included my OK! GIF at number 6 in their list of “Top GIFs of 2020”!

I guess many of us have been working toward various forms of OK-ness this year.

I'm so grateful to have this weird little medium in which my characters can help express ideas and feelings.

Btw, this is the SECOND time one of my GIFs has made it into GIPHY’s year-end top ten ๐Ÿคฏ In 2017 my heart-knitting gnome was number 1!

Greetings from Mochimochi 10 year anniversary

Greetings from Mochimochi was ten years ago this month!

In fall 2010 I brought Mochimochi Land into the real life for the first time at gallery hanahou in NYC. Putting together Greetings from Mochimochi got me exploring a big interconnected world of knitted weirdness, and my subsequent installations at venues like Vogue Knitting LIVE and Everyday Mooonday were based on this first one. And it had a working model train!

I couldn’t be more grateful to KOKO Art Agency for making this magic happen and helping inspire so much Mochimochi Land fun in the past ten years.

MVG animation and tusk-brushing walruses selected for Motion Arts Awards 8

I'm honored to have two of my animations selected for AI-AP's International Motion Arts Awards 8 this year. The Mobilitymaker, a short animation for the Munich Transport Corporation (MVG) was selected, along with Sweet Tusk, a short animation that I made as a personal project in 2019.

You can view all of the selections in the Motion Arts 8 slideshow

Bluebirds of Crappiness

Oh boy are things crappy right now!

I've been offsetting some of the crappiness by knitting cute things (of course) and sharing them with my far-flung friends.

If you'd like to have a Bluebird of Crappiness of your very own, or send one to a friend, you can now purchase one made by me! 50% of the proceeds are going to Chicago food pantries and other services for our Chicago neighbors.

Sweet Tusk selected for Animafest Zagreb 2020

Here's some exciting news: A couple of tusk-brushing walruses have just been selected for Animafest Zagreb 2020, the international animation festival in Croatia!

The short was selected for Films for Children (Age 4-7) category. Great!

Leap Day Updates

I like to think of Leap Day as a day to make a bold move! My bold move this year was to send out a newsletter to my much-neglected list that I created for sending updates on projects that aren't specifically for knitters. Instead of reposting the entire update here, you can click this link to see the newsletter.

I'm making myself a Leap Day promise to send out updates more regularly (as in quarterly, not weekly or anything crazy like that). If you'd like to be on the list and hear about what I've been up to lately, sign up here

Handmade Mobility for MVG

Here's what happened when the Munich Transport Corporation asked us to mochi-fy their fleet.
๐Ÿš๐ŸšŽ๐ŸšŠ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿ‘

This was such a fun project that really stretched my knitting and animation skills. It's a wonder what can be done with wool!
Thanks to Maureen Boyle, Brandi and Mike Simons, John Teti, and KOKO Art Agency for their help with this project. And thank you to Kristina Krienke of MVG!
